Prior to being placed in service, this Clearwell was found to be missing some of the steel reinforcement in the corners. Edge Structural Composites VelaCarb 335 was selected for the repair due to its suitability for use in contact with fresh water. The system has no leachable VOCs detected as tested by EPA method 8260. Only one layer of Velacarb was needed to restore the tank to a safe level, above it’s original design.
The Clearwell was set in the ground for additional support, and had to be carefully excavated to gain access to the areas to be strengthened.
After cleaning and abrading the surface, one layer of VelaCarb 335 was applied to the lower sections first.
Once the lower sections had been allowed to cure (12 hrs) and the adhesion tests performed, the lower section was backfilled and the upper section repaired. This allowed easier access and further reduced the cost.
The repair was completed in less than a week and had no impact on the construction schedule.
After coating, the strengthened area blends in perfectly with the rest of the structure.
