The US Navy, always at the cutting edge of technology, recently selected the durable Edge FiberBond system to strengthen a pier. The pre-stressed concrete box beams were found to be deficient & were strengthened for a flexural upgrade. The high properties of the system determined that only a few light layers were required, a vital consideration in overhead applications.
After a long boat ride out, the crew prepares for a day of applying FRP after first marking & preparing the areas to be strengthened.
Using overhead rollers, the Carbon Fiber is applied to the bottom of the pier.
The Carbon Fiber is pressed onto the surface & air bubbles are removed using a plastic squeegee.
The finished layers of FRP are allowed to cure as the crew prepares the next area to be strengthened.
