These reinforced concrete reactors were designed to hold an odor reducing media to mitigate the impact on a local community. On delivery, it was discovered that much of the reinforcing steel was either missing or had slipped in the form as the concrete was poured. The problem was compounded by a lack of adequate vibrating of the concrete, which resulted in a poor, under-reinforced structure. Edge Structural Composites VelaCarb was selected for it’s high resistance to chemical and environmental degradation and the system’s ability to be applied in high temperature and humidity.
These pictures show some of the extent of the damage. The cracks were injected and the surface & spalls were filled with a high strength repair mortar.
