An un-reinforced concrete slab, 105"x105" by 3" thick was placed in the test fixture and uniformly loaded from beneath with a water bag (fig 1), to simulate an out-of-plane load.
The failed slab was then repaired with FiberBond. The surface was cleaned, abraded and the cracks filled with epoxy. The surface to be bonded was primed and two laminates of FiberBond uni-directional carbon fabric were applied in 18" strips and allowed to cure for 7 days total thickness of fabric <0.020". This design still allows the concrete to breathe.
As seen on the graph, the re-tested slab reached un ultimate load of 44.65 tons, over four times the control. The area under the curve was over nine times greater. Note the curvature of the slab (fig 2 & 3).
The failure occurred near the support and was progressive and cohesive - no adhesive bond failure was observed.
